Puppet live from a webcam or phone

Drive your character in real time and record the take.

Start Live
Set Neutral Pose
Record the take

Why use it

For blocking, previs, or streaming, live puppeting lets you see the character react as you perform, at ~40ms latency on a local camera — under ~60ms reads as instant — with recording available whenever you want to keep the take.

Steps in Blender

  1. 1Open panel 9, "Live (phone camera)", and pick your camera from the dropdown (refresh if it's not listed).
  2. 2Click Start Live — the add-on handles the connection for you, no terminal needed.
  3. 3Hold a neutral, relaxed face and click Set Neutral Pose to calibrate.
  4. 4Perform — the character's face follows yours in real time.
  5. 5Click Record to capture the performance to keyframes, Stop when done.
  6. 6If the rig pose looks broken or stuck, click Reset Bone Pose and recalibrate.
